WHO IS THE GEORGIA STATE DEFENSE FORCE?
The Georgia State Defense Force is an all-volunteer military organization with a primary mission of National Guard Augmentation and force multiplication, Search & Rescue, disaster response, community service, and providing professional skills to the Georgia Department of Defense (GaDOD). We are a family of dedicated, organized, trained, disciplined and professional soldiers serving as a rapid response uniformed force for the State of Georgia and the United States of America. Its a collection of citizens from all walks of life and all professions who want to be a part of something bigger by serving their country and state. Enlistment is open to citizens of Georgia between the ages of 18-64, and you do not need prior military service to enlist. While many of us are prior service, many others are not.

WHAT WE DO:
The Georgia State Defense Force and the 2nd Battalion perform missions in areas such as:

• Search and rescue, including urban and wilderness operations and training
• Disaster reconnaissance
• Pre-Mobilization Training and Assistance Element (PTAE) for National Guard
• Evacuation and control during natural disasters
• Medical assistance
• Maintaining liaison with a variety of local emergency, law enforcement, and homeland security agencies
• Manning emergency operations centers
• Assisting in military data recording
• Perimeter security
  

TRAINING IN THE GSDF:
The Georgia State Defense Force provides directly, and makes available through other resources, a wide variety of training and education opportunities, from urban and wilderness search and rescue certifications to military operations to Community Emergency Response Team training.
